National Bank of Ukraine has invited a foreign expert, who will be engaged in the strategy and tactics of risk management, according to Roman Borysenko, director of the bank’s HR Department, according to Novoye Vremya.
"The NBU is hiring a foreigner. Dr. Axel Stephan Sauer from Germany will deal with risk management," said Borysenko, Novoye Vremya reported on September 3.
According to him, international financial donors will pay the bulk of the expert’s salary. "Unfortunately, we can’t offer a foreigner a salary corresponding to European expectations. But, fortunately, there are foreign organizations ready to rent an apartment and pay the bulk of his compensation package [+/- 70%]" said Roman Borysenko.
The NBU is not going to promote granting citizenship to an expert, hired for one or two years. Therefore, the expert will not be obtaining a status of a civil servant.
Axel Stephan Sauer will start his work in mid-September of this year as a consultant on separate narrow-profile issues of risk management.
Axel Stephan Sauer has over 20 years of experience in financial institutions, 12 of which - in the banking sector. He was responsible for the financing and investment banking market, the treasury, risk management, portfolio management, corporate governance and strategic planning. In 1989-2001, he worked at Credit Suisse and CSFB, DZ Bank (Germany); in 2001-2002 - in the Association of State Banks (Germany). Since 2009, he has been a certified consultant on crisis management with the EBRD. In 2009-2012 - advisor to the Chairman of the Central Bank of Kuwait. Since 2012 - consultant for local finance and capital markets with the EBRD.
