UkSATSE to lose $150 mln annually due to airspace closure for Russia

Ukrainian State Air Traffic Services Enterprise (UkSATSE) will lose $150 million annually if Ukraine closes its airspace for Russian aircraft due to the sanctions policy, said former Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kava in a broadcast of Ukrainian news Channel 5.

"For the Russian airlines the Russian market is not so large and sensitive. With regard to transit, then certainly the aircraft heading to Turkey, Bulgaria and the Middle East will have to fly around the Ukrainian airspace. This will increase the flight time by 35-40 minutes," Kava said.

In case the sanction is introduced prohibiting flights over the territory of Ukraine it will result in a $150 million loss annually for UkSATSE that charges fees for providing aircraft with flight instructions over the Ukrainian territory, according to Kava.

"This will also affect the company employees," he said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko enacted a resolution of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on the application of sanctions against Russia.

The NSDC published a list of individuals and entities of the Russian Federation that fall under Ukraine's expanded sanctions on September 16.
