Ethyl alcohol monopolist Ukrspyrt remains without new CEO

Economic Development and Trade Minister Aivaras Abromavicius has announced that the selection committee failed to nominate a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for state-run Ukrspyrt ethyl alcohol distillery, as one candidate had withdrawn his candidacy on his own, and four others did not meet the selection criteria.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UAA1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"The selection committee has failed to select Ukrspyrt's CEO. At the final round, one candidate withdrew his candidacy, and there were no worthy candidates among the remaining four. Pity but no surprise," Abromavicius wrote on Twitter.

"After a new fee of Ukrspyrt's CEO has been announced, I'm sure the quality of candidates will be considerably different," he tweeted later.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the selection commission in March 2015 shortlisted two contestants as potential CEO at Ukrspyrt – Nina Garkavaya and Anatoliy Dalibozhyk. However, Ukrspyrt's trade union demanded the cancellation of the results of the contest, claiming that the two had allegedly had previous convictions. Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk later ordered to cancel the results and arrange a new contest, despite the fact that the Agriculture Ministry claimed that the contest had been held under Ukrainian laws. The ministry also reported that Cabinet checks had revealed that the allegations of the convictions were groundless.

Early in September, the contest committee under the Agriculture Ministry had an open vote to shortlist five finalists of the Ukrspyrt CEO contest, namely Ukrspyrt's acting director Roman Ivaniuk, Hryhoriy Trypulsky, Rostyslav Chaikivsky, Nina Garkavaya, and Anatoliy Dalibozhyk.

On October 7, Ivaniuk withdrew his candidacy from the competition.

UNIAN's memo. The Cabinet of Ministers in July 2010 decided to create state-run Ukrspyrt on the basis of a concern with the same name. It has to incorporate 76 distilleries, however, only 41 distilleries have been transferred to it so far. Ukrspyrt is a monopolist on the ethyl alcohol market.

The Ukrainian government insists on its privatization.
