Ukrainian troops to use Ukraine-made Hopak portable rifle

Kyiv-based Mayak plant, which is part of Ukroboronprom defense conglomerate, has developed a brand new portable rifle Hopak, according to Ukroboronprom’s press service.

After completing the tests, the newly-designed weapon will be put into service with the Ukrainian Army, says the report.

According to Ukroboronprom officials, the rifle has a 7,62x39 mm caliber, weighing under 5 kg, with a shooting rate of 30 rounds per minute. If required, the rifle can be equipped with special silencer.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Mayak plant has developed anew 12.7 caliber sniper rifle. In addition, Ukroboronprom presented a 120-mm Molot mortar, also developed at Mayak plant. According to first deputy general director of Ukroboronprom, Serhiy Pinkas, the Ukrainian military praised the new mortar during tests.

State-run conglomerate Ukroboronprom was established in 2010 to ensure effective operations and management of state-owned business entities that develop, manufacture, sell, repair, modernize and scrap weapons, military and special equipment and ammunition, and participate in the military-technical cooperation.

Mayak plant is part of the Ukroboronprom and specializes in manufacturing small arms and their components, as well as upgrades and repairs of military equipment. In addition, the plant specializes in the manufacture of personal and industrial tape recording equipment.
