Experts forecast prices of beef, cereals in Ukraine will grow most

Prices of beef and chicken eggs are expected to grow by more than 60%, and grain may go up in price by 1.5 times on the average in 2015 from 2014, according to the Ukrainian-based Agrarian Economics Institute's press service.

"The animal husbandry sector will see wool price hikes by 71.2% compared to the previous year, the growth of beef and veal prices by 69.1% and those of chicken eggs by 60.4%. Prices of cereals will rise by 1.5 times on the average from 2014," Institute experts predict.

They expect the steepest increase among such grain crops as rice and buckwheat by 2.5 times and 2.1 times, respectively. Prices of rye will grow by 60%. Barley, peas and oats may go up in price by about 50%, and millet and wheat by 40%. Prices of maize corn, soybeans and sunflower seeds are projected to grow by about 60%, and those of rapeseeds by 70%.

Prices of poultry and pork may grow by about 40%, and those of milk by 20% in 2015 from 2014.

In the fruit, vegetable and berries segment, the highest increase will be demonstrated by prices of fruit (1.8 times up in 2015 from 2014), while grapes will go up in price by 1.4 times. Potatoes and sugar beets will become more expensive by almost 40%. The price of field vegetables may grow by a third, and that of vegetables grown in greenhouses may rise by 20%. Berries may go up in price by 10%.

As UNIAN reported earlier, consumer prices in Ukraine climbed by 41.4% in January-September 2015 year-over-year. At the same time, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has recorded a fall in food prices worldwide in the past few months, with August demonstrating the steepest decline in food prices in the past seven years.
