Russia preparing more sanctions against Turkey

The Russian Economic Development Ministry has prepared a draft resolution aimed at expanding and refining the economic sanctions imposed on Turkey, Russian newspaper Kommersant reported, referring to the wording of the document that was at its disposal.

According to the report, the resolution enlists types of work that are banned from being performed by the organizations under Turkish jurisdiction. This includes the import of construction, tourist and hotel services, as well as wood processing and training of Russian pilots in Turkey.

An official familiar with the resolution told Kommersant that it would not be possible to obtain transaction passports under new contracts to be concluded by Russian legal entities and individuals with Turkish ones. Without such passports, a Turkish legal entity will not be able to handle bank transfers to and from Russia. In addition, Turkish residents will be barred from bidding in public procurement tenders in Russia.

According to the source, the restrictions will be applicable to new contracts and will not affect the agreements concluded before December 10. In addition, some exceptions may be introduced in future for companies that have already been operating on the Russian market.

"The sanctions are primarily aimed at minimizing the damage done to the Russian economy," the source told the publication.

As UNIAN reported earlier, relations between Turkey and Russia deteriorated after the Turkish Air Force on November 24 shot down a Russian bomber that had violated the Turkish airspace.

On November 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree banning or limiting imports of certain Turkish commodities to Russia, and the activities of organizations under Turkish jurisdiction. Turkish citizens are also prohibited to be employed for certain types of work.
