From April 11, 2016, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) will put into circulation updated UAH 500 banknotes of a 2015 sample, with an upgraded security system, the press service of the NBU has reported.
According to the report, banknotes will be introduced to improve the organization of cash circulation, and according to the plan to replace banknotes that are worn, damaged and withdrawn from circulation.
"Updating the nominal number of banknotes of 2003 - 2007 began in 2012 and has been implemented in accordance with Articles 34 and 35 of the Law of Ukraine "On the National Bank of Ukraine" and the Strategic Program to improve the organization of cash circulation in Ukraine for 2013-2018," the report says.

Updating the previous number of banknotes of the national currency began with UAH 100 of 2014 sample, which was put into circulation on March 9, 2015.
