Naftogaz CEO: Nord Stream 2 will kill gas transit via Ukraine

CEO of the largest Ukrainian state energy company Naftogaz of Ukraine Andriy Kobolev believes that the construction of Nord Stream 2 pipeline project, which Gazprom intends to implement with its European partners, will terminate an existing natural gas transportation route to the EU, the company's press service reported on Twitter.

"If Nord Stream 2 is built, the Ukrainian route will cease to exist. The European Union would sacrifice existing transport capacities of 151 billion cubic meters (bcm) in favor of new ones – 55 bcm just to "cover future demand growth," the press service quoted Kobolev as saying.

As UNIAN reported earlier, North Stream 2 project involves the construction of two offshore gas pipelines with a total capacity of 55 bcm annually delivered from Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea.
