Ukraine threshes 60 mln tonnes of grain in 2015

Ukraine threshed 59.96 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops last year, which was 6.1% down on 2014, the Ukrainian State Statistics Service reported.

In particular, Ukrainian farmers harvested 26.5 million tonnes of wheat in 2015, which was 9.9% up on 2014. Last year, the yield of barley decreased by 8.5%, to 8.3 million tonnes, while that of corn fell by 18.5%, to 23.2 million tonnes.

Bread grain accounted for 45.5% of the gross yield, or 27.3 million tonnes, while the share of coarse grain was 54.5%, or 32.7 million tonnes.

The gross yield of sunflower seeds amounted to 11.2 million tonnes last year, a 10.2% increase from the previous year, according to the State Statistics Service. The yield of rapeseed amounted to 1.7 million tonnes (a 20.8% decline), and the yield of soybeans stood at 3.9 million tonnes, the same level as in the previous year.

In addition, Ukrainian farmers harvested 10.3 million tonnes of sugar beets last year, which was lower by 34.7% compared with 2014, according to the State Statistics Service.

Grain harvested by private farmers accounted for 23% of the total harvest, their share in sunflower seed and sugar beet production was 15% and 8%, respectively.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine harvested 63.8 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops in 2014, which was 2.4% up on 2013 and was at a record high level since Ukraine's independence.
