Antonov-made aircraft to get EU certification – Infrastructure Ministry

The aircraft of Ukraine's state-owned enterprise Antonov, the only Ukrainian designer and manufacturer of cargo and passenger planes, will get EU certification, Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan said at a briefing on Monday, according to Ukrainian newspaper Ekonomichna Pravda.

The Minister said that the relevant document was signed on Monday, EPravda reports.

"Today we have signed an important document – the agreement between the State Aviation Administration and the European Commission on the convergence of certification systems," the minister said.

Omelyan explained that this was one of the most important documents for the certification of Antonov-made aircraft in the EU and worldwide.

Ukraine's top officials – President Petro Poroshenko and Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksandr Turchynov – attended the aircraft roll-out in Kyiv.

The ceremony was also attended by top management of Ukraine's state-owned defense giant Ukroboronprom and Antonov design bureau, which is part of the Concern.

The representatives of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which are customers and partners in the project, were also present.

According to the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, until 2035, the world will need about 260 such aircraft.
