Imports to Ukraine exceed exports by almost $3 bln in 2016

The deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods in 2016 was estimated at US$2.886 billion against a $510.7 million surplus recorded in 2015, according to the Ukrainian State Statistics Service.

Goods exports from Ukraine fell by 4.6% in 2016, to $36.363 billion, while imports grew by 4.6%, to $39.249 billion, the service said.

The ratio of coverage of imports by exports was 0.93 (1.02 in 2015).

Ukraine traded with partners from 226 countries and regions.

Meanwhile, imports from the EU increased by 11.8%, to $17.138 billion and accounted for 43.7% of total imports.

The State Statistics Service said its report did not include data from Russia-annexed Crimea and Sevastopol, and occupied areas in eastern Ukraine.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods in January-November 2016 was estimated at $2.324 billion against a $315.5 million surplus in the same period of 2015.
