Ukraine's telecoms sector sees 10.7% rise in revenue in 2016, to $2.3 bln

Ukrainian telecoms firms' revenue grew by 10.7% in 2016 from 2015, to UAH 61.911 billion, or US$2.3 billion, according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

In particular, the telecoms industry's revenue from services provided to the population increased by 6.4%, to UAH 33.925 billion, or about $1.26 billion.

Mobile operators' revenue rose by 2.6% over the period under review, to UAH 34.077 billion, or $1.26 billion, including UAH 21.028 billion received for providing services to individuals (a 2.9% decrease).

Revenue from local telephone services fell by 10.5% in 2016, to UAH 4.778 billion ($1.18 billion), including UAH 2.845 billion from services provided to individuals (an 11% increase).

In particular, revenue from such services provided to individuals rose by 3.6%, to UAH 0.380 billion.

Internet providers' revenue increased by 48.5% in 2016, to UAH 9.102 billion, or $0.34 billion, whereas revenue from providing such services to households stood at UAH 6.477 billion (a 57.1% increase).

Revenue from postal services grew by 16.7%, to UAH 3.998 billion, or $0.15 billion, while the services provided to the population totaled UAH 1.009 billion (a 20.8% increase).

The State Statistics Service noted that the data does not include information on revenue of telecoms firms located in temporarily occupied areas in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, and the Anti-Terrorist Operation zone in eastern Ukraine.

As UNIAN reported earlier, revenue in Ukraine's telecoms sector grew by 6.2% in 2015 from 2014, to UAH 55.896 billion, or $2.07 billion.
