Ukraine sees 2.4% GDP growth in Q1 y-o-y – statistics

Ukraine's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 2.4% in the first quarter of 2017 (Q1) year-over-year (y-o-y), according to the Ukrainian State Statistics Service's website.

However, GDP fell by 0.3% in Q1 2017 against Q4 2016, due to the seasonal factor, it said.

Ukraine's Economic Development and Trade Ministry earlier gave its GDP update, estimating that the country's GDP growth was about 2.1-2.3% in January-March 2017.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) in its inflation report for April mentioned 3% GDP growth in Q1 2017.

At the same time, economic growth has been recorded for the first time in Ukraine over the past four years after a 9.8% decline in 2015, a 6.6% fall in 2014, and zero growth in 2013.

Ukraine's GDP is expected to rise by 1.9% in 2017, according to NBU estimates.

The International Monetary Fund and the World Bank predict Ukraine's GDP may grow by 2% in 2017.
