Ukraine boosts flour exports by 16% in nine months of MY 2016/2017

Ukrainian agrarians exported 330,000 tonnes of flour in the nine months of the 2016-2017 marketing year, or July 2016 through March 2017, which was 16% up on year-over-year, according to the UkrAgroConsult consulting agency.

China remained a major importer of Ukrainian flour, accounting for 21%, it said.

In particular, flour exports to Angola exceeded 28,000 tonnes, which was almost four times the shipments recorded in the entire last season (7,500 tonnes). Flour shipments to Somalia were about 26,000 tonnes versus 1,900 tonnes in the 2015-2016 marketing year.

Ukraine is also actively exporting flour to the UAE and Palestine. During the reporting period, Ukraine supplied about 21,000 tonnes of flour to the UAE against 3,100 tonnes in the 2015-2016 marketing year. Exports to Palestine in the current season increased by 27%, to 28,000 tonnes.

In the 2016-2017 marketing year, Ukrainian agrarians are planning to set a new grain export record, having shipped 41.6 million tonnes of such crops onto foreign markets. The previous record was reported in the 2015-2016 marketing year, when shipments stood at 39.4 million tonnes.

Ukraine's State Statistics Service reported that Ukraine gathered 65.95 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops in 2016, which was 9.7% more than in 2015, and was a record high for the country in the years of its independence.
