Ukraine may start exporting apples to India

Ukrainian farmers may launch apple exports to India if certain biosecurity requirements have been met, according to the Ukrainian Biosecurity and Consumer Protection Service's media liaison office.

A draft regulating shipments of plants and products of plant origin to India was drawn up and published, it said.

"Ukrainian delegates were informed that notification had been filed with the WTO regarding the draft act regulating imports of plants and related products to India. After this regulatory act becomes effective, Ukrainian apples can be supplied to India, yet they will be subject to certain phytosanitary conditions," the Ukrainian regulator said.

As UNIAN reported, the Ukrainian trade mission on September 11 began work in India, aiming at boosting bilateral trade and promoting Ukrainian foods on the Indian market. It also plans to engage Ukrainian companies in Indian infrastructure and energy projects.

According to her data, the parties agreed to set up an ad hoc group on agrarian issues as part of the joint intergovernmental commission.

Ukrainian exports of goods and services to India in 2016 were estimated at US$2 billion. They grew by 31.4% in 2016 from 2015. In January-June 2017, exports totaled US$1.4 billion, which was 38.5% up year-over-year.
