Development of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, set to bypass Ukraine and run along the bottom of the Baltic Sea, is now in full swing, Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolev told a roundtable on Ukraine’s energy security held in Kyiv Monday, an UNIAN correspondent reports.
"I do not entirely agree with the thesis that the Nord Stream-2 has been suspended... The project is being developed at full speed. They [project operator Nord Stream AG] are planning to start construction shortly. They have already ordered pipes and consider this project as quite promising," he said.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Russia is actively seeking to reduce the volume of gas transit via the territory of Ukraine. To this end, the Russian gas monopoly Gazprom and its partners are building the Turkish Stream pipeline that runs along the bottom of the Black Sea, and also intend to build the Nord Stream-2 pipeline.
