Today, on January 30, the Luhansk Energy Association (LEA) de-energized the Petrovsky pumping station (Petrovsky water intake) of the Popasna water distribution company, which supplies water to the areas of Luhansk region beyond government control (“LPR”), in particular, to the part the militant stronghold of Luhansk and a number of settlements nearby.

The reason for the cut-off is the debt of the local company, which as of January 30 stood at about UAH 173 million, the LEA reported on Facebook.

"At the same time, the debt was formed exactly at the expense of the debts of the" LPR", as 90% of the water pumped by the local company is delivered to the uncontrolled territory," the LEA explained.

Neither that money provided by terrorists, nor the aid by the Luhansk regional state administration in the amount of about UAH 100 million, nor the assistance by the International Committee of the Red Cross, which in 2016 paid electric bills for October-November worth about UAH 16 million allow the local water distribution company to ease the debt burden.
