Three big Ukrainian mobile operators buy 4G licenses for almost US$88 mln

The National Commission for the State Regulation of Communications and Informatization has sold frequencies for the development of 4G technology in Ukraine to three leading mobile operators, namely Kyivstar, Vodafone and lifecell, for UAH 2.456 billion (almost US$88 million).

Seven lots were put up for sale at a tender on Wednesday, January 31, according to an UNIAN correspondent.

Based on the results of bidding, lifecell won the first and second lots with a bid of UAH 601.6 million and UAH 307.65 million with the starting price set at UAH 572 million and UAH 293 million, respectively.

Vodafone won the sixth lot with a bid of UAH 345 million with the starting price fixed at UAH 286 million. It also bought the seventh lot for the starting price set at UAH 286 million.

Thus, UAH 2.456 billion should be transferred to the state budget from the operators for 4G licenses in the 2600 MHz range.

As UNIAN reported, the Cabinet of Ministers in December 2015 approved an action plan for the deployment of the 4G network in Ukraine. On July 4, 2017, the Cabinet approved terms of a tender to sell frequencies in the 2600 MHz range for UAH 2.3 billion and in the 1800 MHz range for UAH 4 billion for the development of 4G technology in Ukraine.
