Amount of deposits in Ukraine's banks in Aug 1.4% up in hryvnia, 1.6% down in U.S. dollars

The amount of hryvnia deposits was higher than that of foreign currency deposits.

The amount of bank deposits in the national currency in Ukraine in August 2020 grew by 1.4% from July 2020, to UAH 722.38 billion, or US$26 billion, while that of bank deposits in foreign currency shrank by 1.6%, to US$17.5 billion, estimated in the U.S. dollar equivalent.

Loans in Ukrainian banks

The amount due to be repaid on loans issued in hryvnias increased by 0.2% in August, whereas there was a 0.1% decrease in the amount in the eight months of 2020, to UAH 612.3 billion (US$22 billion), the regulator said.

The amount due to be repaid on loans issued in foreign currency was 0.3% up in August. It has grown by 12.5% since January 1, 2020, to US$14.7 billion, estimated in the U.S. dollar equivalent.

Bank deposits in 2019

  • Deposits in the national currency in 2019 grew by 18.5%, to UAH 639.7 billion (US$23 billion).
  • Foreign currency deposits in 2019 expanded by 28.5%, to US$17.2 billion, estimated in the U.S. dollar equivalent.
