Defense ministry first time purchases military goods through NATO agency

It became the first procurement of military goods without intermediaries.

Ukraine's Defense Ministry for the first time has purchased military goods through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA).

"Congratulations to the Defense Ministry on its independent entry into international and competitive markets! The first in the history of the Defense Ministry procurement of military goods without intermediaries through NATO for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been completed," as reported by the press service of the Mission of Ukraine to NATO on Twitter.

  • On July 17, 2020, the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, passed bill No. 2398-d on defense procurement in the second reading and as a whole.
  • The document stipulates a gradual transition to the following activities: endorsing quality by state agencies on the basis of approaches used in the relevant NATO standards; enabling government customers to procure goods, works and services for defense purposes under transparent and competitive procedures, as well as purchasing imported goods; handling procurements within a three-year planning system.
  • The bill shall enter into force on January 1, 2021.
