The buyer of Kyiv-based Dnipro Hotel has been vetted by Ukraine's State Property Fund, after it approved a protocol on the results of an e-auction to sell the asset to LLC Smartland.

"This means that our client has passed a full vetting procedure and meets all the requirements for the buyer stipulated in Ukrainian legislation," the National Electronic Exchange, a platform of the ProZorro.Sale system said, according to the Ekonomichna Pravda news outlet.

Under laws, a citizen of the aggressor state (Russia) cannot be named the winner of a tender.

If the winner buys the hotel with credit funds, then the origin of the funds must be disclosed. A creditor company cannot belong to a citizen of the Russian Federation.

On July 15, the State Property Fund held an auction to sell Dnipro Hotel in the center of Kyiv. It was sold to Smartland LLC for UAH 1.111 billion (US$40.1 million).

Other bidders were well-known local and foreign businessmen, namely Stepan Chernovetskyi, Tomas Fiala, Vadym Novinsky, Serhiy Tigipko, and others.

Later it turned out that the hotel was acquired by Oleksandr Kokhanovsky, who founded the Natus Vincere (NAVI) e-Sports team, and his partners.

They plan to use the hotel for a large-scale e-sports project. The new owners plan to invest about US$20 million in the reconstruction and are already negotiating with a "top foreign architectural bureau."

Kokhanovsky says the hotel will not be transferred into a gambling business and the investors have no connections with the Russian Federation.
