Ukraine resumes electricity imports from Belarus after nine-month ban

Since January 2021, NEURC has canceled the norm authorizing it to restrict electricity imports from Russia and Belarus.

Ukraine in January 2021 resumed electricity imports from Belarus after almost a nine-month ban by the regulator.

As of January 4, Ukraine has already imported 150 MWh of electricity from Belarus. Another 30 MWh was imported from Slovakia through the Burshtyn energy island, as reported by the National Power Company (NPC) Ukrenergo.

At the same time, electricity exports amounted to 133 MWh, including 93 MWh to Hungary and 40 MWh to Romania.

On April 8, 2020, the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC) canceled the auctions at which the capacity of interstate relations with Russia and Belarus for 2020 is distributed.

Since January 2021, NEURC has canceled the norm authorizing it to restrict electricity imports from Russia and Belarus.
