Ukraine world's second-largest grain exporter in 2019/20 MY

Ukraine has ranked second in the list of the world's top grain suppliers, the senior official says.

"Ukraine is an important player on the international grain market, one of the guarantors of global food security, having the potential to increase grain output and exports," Deputy Minister for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture, Ukraine's Trade Representative Taras Kachka said on Monday, according to Agroportal.ua citing the ministry's press service.

For the 2019/2020 marketing year, in terms of the volume of all grain exports, Ukraine became the "silver medalist", with the United States topping the list of exporters, the official said.

Ukraine in MY 2019-2020 exported record-high 57.2 million tonnes of grains, legumes, and flour.

At a meeting held on December 22, 2020, the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade, and Agriculture and relevant associations agreed not to put caps on grain exports

Ukrainian agrarians exported 27.2 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops as of January 15, 2021. In terms of crops, the exports included 12.6 million tonnes of wheat, 3.9 million tonnes of barley, 1,700 tonnes of rye, and 10.3 million tonnes of corn.
