The relevant draft decree was published on the parliament's website on July 15.

Ukrainian MP with the Holos faction, Yaroslav Zhelezniak, reported on Facebook that the Verkhovna Rada's Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy would consider the document on July 16.

It is known that Shevchenko is the long-term manager with Ukrgasbank. His candidacy was discussed at the President's Office after the former NBU Governor Yakiv Smolii resigned.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on July 1, 2020, Smolii submitted to the Ukrainian president a resignation letter, explaining his move by a long-standing systematic political pressure, which he said made it impossible for him to effectively fulfill his duties.

On July 3, the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, supported the motion by President Volodymyr Zelensky to dismiss Smolii from the post of NBU Governor. First Deputy Governor of the NBU Kateryna Rozhkova has assumed duties of acting NBU Governor until the new chief is appointed.
