Ukraine and Poland have agreed on further steps to prevent the implementation of Russia's Nord Stream 2 project.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba discussed the relevant issues with Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz during a meeting in Warsaw on July 27, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's website.

"Russia's Nord Stream 2 project poses a threat to the energy security of Europe," the officials stressed.

The parties agreed to develop last year's trilateral memorandum between Ukraine, Poland and the United States on cooperation in the energy sector to diversify sources of energy supplies.

The United States is also convinced that the Russian project threatens transatlantic security. Last week, the U.S. Senate approved a bill to sanction Nord Stream 2. It was accepted by a majority vote. As soon as Congress agrees on the final version of the document, it will be sent to President Donald Trump for signing.

The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which is being laid along the Baltic Sea seabed towards Germany, costs US$11 billion and is 90% complete. The unfinished part must be completed in the territorial waters of Denmark.
