The German authorities say the slowdown in the construction of Nord Stream 2 threatens the country's energy security. They believe that national infrastructure is diversified enough to provide Germany with necessary resources during the suspension of the construction.

"Berlin says they consider Washington's sanctions inappropriate, but will not require financial compensation from the United States," the publication wrote.

In addition, Germany's leading business newspaper Handelsblatt says that the Federal Network Agency for Electricity, Gas, Telecommunications, Post and Railway will reject Nord Stream 2 AG's application to withdraw the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from the European Union Gas Directive.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Polish government planned to freeze Gazprom's assets in Europe as compensation that the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce awarded to Poland's largest state-owned oil and gas company PGNiG as part of the consideration of the official Warsaw appeal regarding prices of Russian gas supplied to Poland.
