Over 24,000 Ukrainian households install PV systems

Over 2,100 systems whose total capacity is 65 MW were installed in the first three months of 2020 alone.

Ukraine's State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving says over 24,000 households in Ukraine had installed photovoltaic (PV) systems with a total capacity of 618 MW as of May 4, having invested about EUR 495 million in them.

"Today, more than 24,000 households in Ukraine use PV systems to meet their electricity needs. The total capacity of households' solar power systems reaches 618 MW, while total investment is estimated at about EUR 495 million," the agency's press service said on its website on May 4.

In particular, over 2,100 systems whose total capacity is 65 MW were installed in the first three months of 2020 alone, which was 50% up year-over-year, the report said.

The top five Ukrainian regions in terms of the number of installed PV systems include Dnipropetrovsk region (3,200), Ternopil region (over 2,200), Kyiv region (almost 2,000), Ivano-Frankivsk region (over 1,800), and Zakarpattia region (over 1,400).

"In total, more than 24,000 PV systems allow households to generate over 0.7 GWh of clean electricity per year. For comparison: this amount of electricity is enough for about 230,000 families," the press service added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, US$3.7 billion was invested in Ukrainian renewables in 2019, which allowed the construction of additional 4.5 GW facilities. Thus, renewables' capacity totaled 6.8 GW at the end of the year.

The main incentive of renewable energy generation in Ukraine is the so-called "green," or feed-in tariff, which is higher than other power rates.
