Ukraine's Interior Ministry has said almost 36,000 offences were recorded on the first day after a traffic speed camera system was launched in the capital city of Kyiv.

"The result of the first 17 hours when the speed camera system worked in Kyiv: 35,762 offences were recorded, 5,620 were processed," the ministry's press service quoted Interior Minister Arsen Avakov as saying.
"'Race leaders': a Mercedes car was moving around the city at a speed of 208 km/h, and a BMW car drove past three cameras at a speed of 200 km/h, the driver will have to pay three fines," the minister said.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the first speed enforcement cameras started operating at 00:01 on June 1. The equipment is installed in Kyiv and on Kyiv region's highways, exclusively in places where the rate of traffic accidents with serious consequences is the highest.
