Horbulin elected head of Ukroboronprom's Supervisory Board – CEO

The decision was made unanimously.

Newly appointed CEO of Ukraine's state-run Ukroboronprom Concern Yuriy Husyev says academician Volodymyr Horbulin has been elected Chairman of the concern's Supervisory Board.

The decision was made at a meeting of the Supervisory Board on December 8, Husyev wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Horbulin stressed the importance of implementing an effective reform at Ukroboronprom and ensuring the development of the country's military-industrial complex.

Horbulin: Background

Volodymyr Horbulin is a Ukrainian politician, scientist, statesman, as well as Doctor of Sciences (Engineering), professor, and academician of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Ukraine.

In 2014-2018, he was advisor to the Ukrainian president and Director of the National Institute for Strategic Research. On October 9, 2020, Horbulin was re-elected as First Vice-President of the NAS of Ukraine.

Horbulin also served as First Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine. During Petro Poroshenko's presidency, he was a member of the political subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) in Minsk.

Reforming Ukroboronprom

  • In August, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine Oleh Urusky announced Ukroboronprom's transformation and the change of its management.
  • On October 6, 2020, Zelensky dismissed Aivaras Abromaviсius from the post of Ukroboronprom CEO.
  • Ihor Fomenko was appointed the defense giant's acting chief.
  • On December 3, Zelensky appointed former Kherson Governor Yuriy Husyev as Ukroboronprom CEO.
  • Ukraine's state-run Ukroboronprom Concern was founded in 2010 to ensure the effective operation and management of state-run economic entities involved in the development, manufacture, sale, repair, upgrade, and disposal of weapons, military and special equipment, and ammunition. Ukroboronprom incorporates about 140 enterprises of Ukraine's military industrial complex.
