A powerful 7.8-strong earthquake hit Ecuador on the night of April 17. The quake lay at a depth of 20.2 km, 28 km south-east of the village of Muisne.
As of the morning of April 18, the disaster has already claimed 272 lives and left more than 2,000injured. Many people were left homeless.
"This is a greatest tragedy for the country over the past 67 years," said President Rafael Correa.
