All involved in organizing Russian presidential elections in occupied Crimea to be sanctioned – Klimkin

The minister also warned Russian officials against any attempts to set up polls in the occupied Donbas.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a note of protest to the Russian Federation in connection with the presidential elections in the territory of the illegally annexed Crimea, Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin wrote on Twitter.

"We sent a note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation: 1. A resolute protest against presidential elections in the occupied Crimea; 2. Warned against attempts to organize elections in the occupied Donbas; 3. Noted that there can be no election in the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine without full implementation of the first 2 conditions," he tweeted.

"We will work to ensure that all those involved in [setting up] presidential elections in the occupied territory of Crimea are subject to appropriate sanctions," Klimkin stressed.

As UNIAN reported earlier, presidential elections in Russia are scheduled for March 18, 2018, the day of the annexation of the Ukrainian Crimea.
