The European Union has denied reports that it allegedly asked Ukraine to grant special status to the so-called Luhansk People's Republic and Donetsk People's Republic prior to the fulfillment of such provisions of the Minsk agreements as the ceasefire and local elections, according to Maja Kocijancic, the spokesperson for EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy led by HRVP Federica Mogherini.
"There have been no changes in the EU's policy," she told an UNIAN special correspondent in Brussels on Wednesday while commenting on media reports saying that the EU insisted that it had the right to ask Ukraine to grant special status to Donbas as soon as possible.
As was reported, eurointegration.com.ua wrote with reference to the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine that the EU urged the Ukrainian side to grant special status to Donbas without waiting until Russian-backed militants fulfill their part of the Minsk agreements, including a full ceasefire, and before a local election in eastern Ukraine is held.
