DPR envoy: Smaller-caliber arms withdrawal signals end of war

Negotiator representing the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin claims that the signing of the agreement on the withdrawal of weapons whose caliber is smaller than 100 mm from the contact line in Donbas could mean the end of war in the region.

"In fact, this could mean the end of war, in my opinion. As it will be followed by the withdrawal of military hardware at the needed distance, as a 30-km buffer strip, in essence, is to be created: each party will put it 15 kilometers away. Thus, it will be extremely difficult to exchange fire," a militant website cited Pushilin as saying.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Trilateral Contact Group consisting of OSCE Special Representative in Ukraine Martin Sajdik, former Ukrainian President, Ukrainian envoy Leonid Kuchma and Russia's representative Azamat Kulmukhametov signed an agreement in Minsk on Tuesday on the withdrawal of smaller-caliber weapons in Donbas.

DPR leader Alexander Zakharchenko and leader of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) Igor Plotnitsky later put their signatures under the agreement.
