Criminal proceeding was launched into the attempt of assassination of Ukraine’s General Prosecutor Viktor Shokin, according to Deputy Prosecutor General, chief military prosecutor Anatoliy Matios, the PGO press service has told UNIAN.
According to Matios, an investigated criminal offense is classified under Art. 112 (attempt of assassination of a state official) of the Criminal Code providing for an up-to-fifteen-year imprisonment.
The investigation is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), while the Prosecutor's Office provides procedural guidance. Urgent investigative actions are underway.
Matios tied the assassination attempt against Shokin, who was exercising his duties, with the activities that are currently being conducted by law enforcers.
