Parliament adopts bill on denationalization of media

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted law "On Reforming of the State and Municipal Print Mass Media" (No. 1123), taking into consideration the amendments proposed by Ukrainian President, according to an UNIAN correspondent.

It is reported that the law had been adopted only after three failed voting attempts.

The law defines a mechanism for reforming of the print media established by government authorities, other public bodies, as well as local authorities.

The first stage shall be launched within one year from the date of entry into force of the mentioned law, and the second stage - in the next two years.

In the first stage, the print media and editorials will be reformed as provided for in the list approved by the Ukrainian government on the recommendation of the central executive body. This ensures the development of a state policy in such areas as TV and radio broadcasting, information and publishing, as well as the organization of training of the editorial staff.
