Former Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov, a leader of the Russian opposition-minded People's Freedom Party (PARNAS), has assured leader of the Crimean Tatar people, Ukrainian MP Mustafa Dzhemilev that the Russian-occupied territory of Crimea will be given back under Ukraine's control, according to the Crimean news agency Krym.Realii.
The two politicians met in Strasbourg, where Kasyanov took part in a meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which was held to commemorate Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov, who was killed in Moscow, Russia, on February 27, 2015.
"Please accept my assurances that Crimea will eventually be released and returned to Ukraine," Kasyanov said.
Earlier, he said that only the Crimean Tatars have the right under the UN Charter to raise the question of self-determination of the peninsula.
As UNIAN reported earlier, on January 27, Dzhemilev met with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on the sidelines of a PACE summit in Strasbourg, where they discussed the idea of creating a special international format of cooperation on the de-occupation of Crimea.
