Ukraine envoy to UN appeals to UN Sec-Gen over Avdiyivka shelling

Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Volodymyr Yelchenko has appealed to Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres against the background of the escalation in Donbas and the shelling of Avdiyivka, the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN wrote on Twitter.

"Yelchenko in a letter to UN secretary-general: we demand from the Russian Federation to cease hostilities immediately and to comply strictly with the ceasefire," the Mission tweeted.

The relevant letter dated January 30 has also been published, where Yelchenko reported about massive attacks by the Russian occupation forces using all available weapons, including MLRS "Grad" for the last two days. In addition, the letter says that the Russian weapons have killed 8 Ukrainian soldiers and left another 26 wounded.

As UNIAN reported earlier, an attack on the Ukrainian-controlled town of Avdiyivka late on Monday left nearly 34,000 residents cut off the power grids along with a halt to the heat and water supply amid frosts forecast at 20 degrees Celsius below zero at night.
