Poroshenko says no one dares steal from army

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says no one dares steal from the army, commenting on the detention of the military top brass accused of corruption, according to an UNIAN correspondent.

"I will not let anyone steal from the army. Those who dare do so will be severely punished. This is the president's stance because he personally takes care of the army and the army is one of our obvious achievements in the past three years," Poroshenko told journalists while visiting a new hostel for Ukrainian military in Kyiv on October 12.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office exposed a corruption scheme used to embezzle public funds worth over UAH 149 million, or US$5.6 million, in fuel procurements by the Defense Ministry.

Two other suspects are an employee of the said Department and a representative of the Defense Ministry's Internal Audit Department.
