Ukraine's Election Code passes first reading

The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has adopted the draft Election Code, which was submitted by Parliament Speaker Andriy Parubiy and MPs Oleksandr Chernenko and Leonid Yemets, in the first reading, according to an UNIAN correspondent.

Relevant bill No. 3112-1 was backed by 226 out of the 368 MPs registered in the session hall.

Presenting the draft Election Code in parliament, Chernenko from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction said that the bill had been drafted on the basis of a draft law submitted for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada of the previous convocation and co-authored by MP of several convocations Yuriy Klyuchkovsky.

As Parubiy reported earlier, the parliament was planning to consider two versions of the Election Code.
