G7 envoys urge NABU, SAPO to stay out of politics – sources

During the meeting of the G7 ambassadors with Director of the National Anti-corruption Bureau (NABU) Artem Sytnyk and Chief of the Specialized Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) Nazar Kholodnytsky, Ukraine’s top anti-graft operatives were asked to keep a low profile and not to get involved in politics, two independent sources, familiar with the situation, told TSN news service.

According to TSN’s sources, Sytnyk complained that Ukrainian politicians interfered with NABU work because of fear of being prosecuted.

After him, the floor was given to Nazar Kholodnytsky, who briefed the meeting’s participants in general about the cases investigated and certain issues in the work of anti-corruption bodies.

She was supported by Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli, who said that the ambassadors continued to support the anti-corruption bodies of Ukraine, however urging them not to get involved in politics.

Meanwhile, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch has reportedly remained silent throughout the meeting.
