Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko in a comment to LB.ua responded to the demand by Finance Minister Oleksandr Danyliuk to resign.
"I consider his statement as a banal will to avoid criminal liability," Yuriy Lutsenko told LB.ua.
The Prosecutor General recalled that in the summer he had already appealed to the Cabinet with a demand to dismiss Danyliuk after the State Fiscal Service audited the minister and confirmed that he had failed to pay some UAH 700,000 in taxes.
"Danyliuk either has to pay taxes or be locked up," said Lutsenko.
On a separate notion, the Prosecutor General explained why the PGO launched criminal proceedings against the current leadership of Privatbank.
According to Lutsenko, People's Deputy Oleksandr Dubinin in September and November reported to the PGO and NABU [National Anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine] on the illegal activities of the state-owned "Privatbank" during the signing of agreements with Kroll and other companies.
