About 2,000 Russians pass biometric control on Ukraine border on Jan 1 – Border service

Speaker for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Oleh Slobodyan says 3,300 foreigners, including 1,900 Russian citizens, crossed the Ukrainian border on the first day after a new biometric system was launched, according to TV Channel 112 Ukraine.

"Over the first 24 hours of the system's operation, more than 3,300 foreigners subject to biometric control crossed the border, among them there were 1,900 citizens of the Russian Federation," he told 112 Ukraine.

"Citizens react calmly," he added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine on January 1, 2018, introduced a new system of biometric control for citizens from 70 countries who plan to enter Ukraine.

To this end, 157 international border crossing points, as well as three entry/exit checkpoints on the administrative border with the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea have been equipped.
