Poroshenko appoints new SBU chief in Zakarpattia

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has appointed Volodymyr Pakhniuk as a new head of the Directorate of Ukraine's SBU Security Service in Zakarpattia region.

The relevant decree was signed by the head of state on October 26.

Prior to that, the president had dismissed Pakhniuk from the post of the SBU head in Vinnytsia region.

At the same time, Poroshenko dismissed Oleh Voyevodin from the post of the head of the SBU Directorate in Zakarpattia.

As UNIAN reported earlier, in September, a video was uploaded on the internet showing Ukrainians being granted Hungarian citizenship with an instruction not to inform the authorities about the fact. People on the video read out the oath of allegiance as Hungarian citizens. Then the Hungarian diplomat urged them to conceal from the Ukrainian authorities the fact of obtaining Hungarian citizenship.

On October 4, the Hungarian consul in the city of Berehove was declared persona non grata. In response, Hungary announced the expulsion of the Ukrainian consul in Budapest.

On October 20, a number of billboards calling to "stop the separatists" were put up in Ukraine's Zakarpattia region with photos of the three leaders of the Hungarian community and anti-Hungarian calls.

The regional state administration reported that the ads were placed by unknown individuals and without relevant permits.

A criminal case was opened under Part 1 of Article 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "Violation of citizen equality on the grounds of their race, nationality or religious beliefs."
