UNCHR offers electric cart to elderly, pregnant, and people with special needs at crossing point in Donbas

Officials with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees have launched an electric cart at the Stanytsia Luhanska checkpoint on the line of demarcation in Donbas, eastern Ukraine.

"Today UNHCRUkraine is launching an electric cart to support elderly, pregnant women and persons with disabilities who are crossing the Stanytsya Luhanska pedestrian checkpoint in east Ukraine," the organization's press secretary in Ukraine, Hugo Reichenberger, wrote on Twitter.

In late June, the disengagement of forces and means was carried out near Stanytsia Luhanska, on which the parties had agreed in the fall of 2016.

Ukrainian authorities launched a free shuttle bus from the bridge to the checkpoint.

Mine clearance efforts in the territory around the destroyed bridge continue.

Repair teams will start their work to restore the bridge as soon as demining is completed.
