EU mulls EUR 50 mln humanitarian, infrastructure aid for Ukraine - Hahn

EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn during his visit to Mariupol in eastern Ukraine on Friday said the European Union was considering the allocation of another EUR 50 million in humanitarian and infrastructure aid, that’s according to Iryna Gerashchenko, the Verkhovna Rada Vice Speaker, who is accompanying the EU delegation on their Donbas trip.

“Today, Commissioner Hahn announced that the EU considered the issue of providing Ukraine with a EUR 50 million aid for humanitarian and infrastructure projects,” Gerashchenko wrote on Facebook.

She added that in recent years, the European Commission has allocated nearly EUR 400 million in aid for Ukraine, including humanitarian. Of this sum, EUR 1.3 million went to Mariupol, including the setting up of a medical lab in the eastern district. On Friday, June 2, the dormitory, built due to the EU financial aid, was opened to accommodate 35 families of IDPs.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Hahn called visa liberalization for Ukraine signed by the EU a “well-deserved reward” for the country’s reforms.
