The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine has sent for examination materials gathered during the verification of possible involvement of the ICU brokerage company and staff of Ukrainian banks in buying up government bonds for the "dirty" money of Ukraine’s disgraced ex-president Viktor Yanukovych, Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko told a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense.
A scheme of asset withdrawal from Ukraine by Viktor Yanukovych’s entourage, earlier published by Al Jazeera, involves former NBU Governor Valeriya Gontareva, a fugitive Ukrainian oligarch Serhiy Kurchenko, MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko, and Pavel Fuchs, a businessman from Ukraine who made his fortune in Moscow.
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has refuted accusations against its leadership in facilitating the withdrawal of $1.5 billion in favor of fugitive former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, according to the NBU's press service.
Investment Capital Ukraine (ICU), which was headed by Valeria Gontareva before her appointment as the country's chief banker, was reportedly involved in brokering $1.5 billion in bond purchases designed to help ex-president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych siphon US$1.5 billion from the country between 2012 and 2014, according to the Novoye Vremya weekly, referring to Al Jazeera.
Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Viktor Nazarenko is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit, however, doctors claim his health condition is satisfactory, agency’s press secretary Oleh Slobodyan told 112 Ukraine TV channel.
