The Ukrainian armed forces recorded 32 reconnaissance overflights by enemy drones in the Donbas conflict zone on Saturday – a record number, while one drone was spotted in the sky over Crimea, annexed by Russia in March 2014, a spokesman from the presidential administration for the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) said.
Russian-backed militants have started carrying out more active aerial reconnaissance, Presidential Administration Speaker for ATO issues, Colonel Oleksandr Motuzianyk said at a briefing in Kyiv on Sunday, an UNIAN correspondent reported.
"In the past 24 hours [on Saturday], the Ukrainian army fixed 32 reconnaissance overflights by militants' drones in Donetsk and Luhansk regions," he said.
"One drone, which crossed the administrative border between Kherson region and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, was spotted by a border patrol in the Berdiansk sector," he said.
