Aseiev is a contributor to the Ukrainian Service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) and a well-known blogger. He disappeared at the beginning of June 2017 in Donetsk. Reportedly detained by so-called "DPR" forces, his whereabouts were, until recently, unknown. During an OSCE conference in June, the heads of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) and the Russian Union of Journalists (RUJ) issued a joint statement expressing concern for Aseiev, the OSCE said in a press release.
