Russian submarine with cruise missiles off Syria coast - media

A Russian submarine has reportedly been spotted near the Syrian coast, according to a source in the Russian Defense Ministry, Reuters reports citing Interfax.

Submarine is equipped with the same missiled used by Russia's Caspian flotilla to strike targets in Syria in mid-November, according to Reuters.

Rostov-on-Don B-237 submarine (NATO codename “Improved Kilo”) boasts advanced stealth technologies and an extended combat range, armed with 533mm torpedoes and reportedly Kalibr-PL (submarine modification) water-to-surface cruise missiles.

Vladimir Putin’s spokesman said the Kremlin is not aware of any subsea military activity near Syria, as these questions should be addressed to the Ministry of Defense.
