The Supreme Court of Ukraine has dismissed a claim filed by fugitive ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov on his right to be paid a pension in Ukraine.

Azarov appealed to the Supreme Court almost a year ago after courts of lower jurisdiction had ruled that he was not entitled to payment of a pension in Ukraine.

The payment of a Ukrainian pension to Azarov was ceased in 2016, two years after he fled to Russia. However, Kyiv's Podilsky District Court ordered the Pension Fund to restore the accrual and payment of pensions to the fugitive official.

The Court of Appeals then deprived Azarov of his right to a pension in October 2016. Since then, the former premier has been unsuccessfully trying to have his payments back.

Azarov said in April 2018 he lived in Moscow, using his savings.
